Let’s take a look at these little life lessons our seniors have picked up along the way for all to partake of:
-
There’s still so much left to learn. Think you know everything about life? Wait until you get to have a conversation with a senior and realize that you’ve got such a long, long way to go, and learn about how things work in life. When you listen to a senior’s experiences and/or real wisdom, it’s very humbling. It entails so many happy and sad seasons to learn and explore from. Their wealth of experience will teach us that there’s beauty in going through everything after all.
-
Prioritize things. Most of us go through our day-to-day juggling on tasks. You’ve got a whooping career, a family to take care of, some errands to run, and a new series to watch. Life is good at challenging our priorities, throwing us off balance when we can’t handle time with ease. Do you know people who prioritize like a pro? You guessed it right! Our seniors understand that life will throw lemons at us in the guise of attention-seeking needs. But they will eventually fade into the background so we can clearly see what matters most.
-
Learn from your adversities. Nobody grows from comfort zones. We learn from experience, from accepting challenges, and from taking opportunities. When a soldier comes out from a battle, he becomes stronger and wiser. That’s the silver lining in our setbacks. When we’re faced with adversities, we must go through the process, learn from it, and come out twice as better, stronger, and wiser than we were before. Just like our wise seniors who have been through countless hardships in life.
-
Believe in yourself. We can thank all our lessons for being a people-pleaser, and move on by giving up the vice of needing approval and/or validation from the world in our decisions. Our older adults enjoy peace of mind because they freed themselves from worrying about others’ perceptions. We can learn to be confident about ourselves, exercise our independence, and get rid of negativities. While we can’t mute what other people think about us, we can learn to be stronger than the outside force that can only weigh us down.
-
Have a good laugh. Seniors are the funniest folks around because they dig from their well of human experience. They understand how hard life can be, and they want to tone it down a little bit by making us laugh. Taking things seriously will take up so much mental space that it drains our energy. Looking back from the previous lesson, “Everything will come to pass,” bad days will rest easy soon. Our seniors have the experience that tells us to weather the storm and to laugh at the rain. Or better yet, we can always trick ourselves into happiness by smiling and enjoying a good laugh.
